Club News

18th May 2014

Last meeting
Those of you who were able to come to the club on 13 May will know what an excellent presentation we were given by Gordon Allison. His presentation exposed us to the very real differences between photography for a living and photography as a hobby. Nevertheless, there was much to take away from the evening as a result of Gordon sharing his technical knowledge and approach to photography. His judging of the annual competition gave us an insightful and objective appraisal of the work being judged with his candid but positive critique. His comments were helpful to everyone there in pointing out what is necessary in order to achieve a high quality image.

The top four placed images in each class, as scored by Gordon, are on the competitions page of this web site. The winners are Ronnie MacDonald, Best Colour Photograph of the Year and Andy Kirby, Best Black and White Photograph of the Year. As to the cumulative points scored on the six monthly competitions the winners were also announced: Ronnie MacDonald was declared Black and White Photographer of the Year and Hazel Proctor Colour Photographer of the Year. Trophies were presented. Many congratulations to all the winners.

Steam train
If you were out and about, either on board or at the trackside, on Monday 12 May do send your photographs to John Alderson. He will put together a presentation to be shown in the next season.

Field trips
Please send your images for both the Loch Brora field trip and upcoming Balnagown field trip to Andy Kirby who will also put together a presentation for next season.

Balnagown Field trip 27 May
You will already have received an e-mail giving details of this trip. If you are coming please let Andy know by close of play on Friday 23 May. It is necessary that security at the castle are advised of numbers in advance.

End of season
The formal 2013-14 season is now drawing to a close but that doesn’t mean you will not be receiving e-mails from Andy! There are ideas already being discussed for activities including field trips and of course you will be hearing shortly about the competition themes for next season. The 2014-15 season of meetings will be starting on Tuesday 9 September and, as usual, continuing on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month; so pop that into your diary now. A full programme will be published later in the summer.
